10 Feb Take the “Road” less traveled to Northern Manitoba, Canada!
In 1976 my father took the “Road” less traveled. It was a road that headed north of Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada to the town of Lynn Lake. The last 227 miles were a dirt and gravel road newly built to get supplies and trucks to the Mining town of Lynn Lake, Manitoba. The Wolverine Lodge was our destination and the reason for our trip was Monster Manitoba Northern Pike that my father read about in Field and Stream Magazine. It was said that there was a new road to a place in Northern Manitoba that was only reachable in the past by train or plane. Our first adventure to the Wolverine Lodge was filled with many huge pike over 20lbs!!! The next year we made two trips and so on every summer after that until the owner of the Wolverine Lodge, Stan Geddes offered the Lodge to my father on a win win deal. My father purchased the lodge in the winter of 1980 and in 1981 was our first year of operation. Make a long story short, fast forward to now to 35 yrs later and with the catch and release we implemented back in the 80’s and barbless hooks, there are still as many Monster Manitoba Northern Pike today as there ever was! Here is a fish caught last spring 2014 with Jason Mitchell’s Outdoors….
2014 Master Angler Pike! Fishing is outstanding still today.
